Comet fiber filter media is a fiber bundle shaped like a comet — a compact nucleus at one end and a loose fibrous tail at the other. Packed into a filter bed, the nuclei sit close and the tails stay open, so one bed carries both the fine pores that polish the effluent and the open channels that hold the solids and oil it removes. The bed frees itself under reverse flow, so backwash is quick and the media returns to duty.

The comet geometry grades a single filter bed from dense to open, so suspended solids and oil are held through the full depth — and released again on backwash.
Every element is a fiber bundle with a compact nucleus at one end and a loose fibrous tail at the other. Packed in a filter, the nuclei form the dense layer and the tails the open layer, giving one bed a graded pore structure instead of a single pore size.
Because the fibers stay loose in the water, the bed lifts evenly under reverse flow. Captured solids are flushed out of the whole bed depth in a short rinse cycle, so the media returns to service quickly and keeps its dirt-holding capacity.
Specified for D-type filters where suspended solids and oil have to come out in the same stage, the media handles both duties in one bed — useful for oily wastewater, circulating water and polishing duties.
